Kraken Innovations GmbH Unveils Revolutionary Sensor Technology at SPS Italia 2024
Kraken Innovations GmbH presented its groundbreaking sensor technology at the SPS Italia trade fair in Parma at the end of May 2024.
This recently patented sensor technology introduces a world first: for the first time ever, live data can be captured directly from the gear tooth contact. This is achieved by measuring material stresses within the tooth using strain gauges.
The signal analysis of individual gear teeth is supported by AI technology, enabling real-time monitoring of key parameters such as torque, speed, rotational angle, direction of rotation, and temperature. This allows process data to be recorded and anomalies to be detected immediately, significantly improving system reliability.
Thanks to the high measurement resolution of Kraken Innovations’ integrated system, the complex installation of external sensors, such as encoders or torque sensors, is no longer necessary. Additionally, the self-locking capability can eliminate the need for a brake. Besides cost savings, this also significantly reduces the overall system length, enabling much more compact drive solutions, as Kraken Innovations’ system is fully integrated within the existing gearbox space.
By leveraging artificial intelligence, the lifespan of the gearbox can be calculated based on actual operating conditions. The system can also monitor the status of the connected application, allowing for precise predictions and planning of maintenance intervals. This increases operational efficiency and minimizes downtime.
Kraken Innovations’ technology can be integrated directly into the customer’s system via fieldbus or, in the future, analyzed via cloud integration. Kraken Innovations offers customized solutions tailored to the specific needs of their customers—whether regarding required measurement values and resolution or the necessity of lifetime predictions.
